Cultural Diversity: Opportunities and Socialisation

Development of a nationally comparative study of gay and lesbian people in Cyprus and Belgium.

RUBSI is now collaborating with CuDOS (Cultural Diversity:  Opportunities and Socialisation) at Ghent University (Belgium) and  PRCEO (Policy Research Centre on Equal Opportunities) at the University of Antwerp and Hasselt University (Belgium) to develop a nationally comparative study of gay and lesbian people in Cyprus and Belgium.

The Belgian component of the study is funded by the Flemish government (Department of Policy on Equal Opportunities) and the Cypriot component by RUBSI of University of Nicosia. This study will focus on the relationships between experienced discrimination and social support, sexual identity development and health outcomes amongst gay and lesbian people in Cyprus and Belgium.

The project started in October 2009 and is expected to finish in December 2010. The results will be announced at a special press-conference on the 1st December, 2010 (World AIDS Day).
