Dear Advocates:

In June 2011, all 192 Member States of the United Nations General Assembly will gather at the UN Headquarters in New York to renew and accelerate their political commitments to the AIDS epidemic. Prior to this High-Level Meeting on AIDS, there are strategic opportunities for global civil society to make a meaningful contribution and help shape its outcome.

Gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to shoulder a disproportionate burden of the HIV epidemic. Despite escalating prevalence rates, we continue to be ignored and underrepresented in HIV policy, financing and programmatic discussions that concern us. We are criminalized, ostracized and rejected in many contexts worldwide, further undermining our ability to realize our basic right to health.

This is simply not acceptable. We must hold our leaders accountable. We must demand for more equitable responses. We must act right now.

To help clarify the process and facilitate your participation, the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF) has put together a brief on various processes leading up to the High-Level Meeting. This note also contains top-line messaging concerning the AIDS epidemic among gay men and other MSM with links to helpful resources and key documents.
